OPENING MAY 15 FOR SUMMER SEASON!

our developing farm story

Our Story
Now owned by Scott and Cindy Lewis, the farm market was built in the 1970s by Scott’s grandparents (Winston and Alice Lewis) and parents (Gary and Brenda Lewis). It was closed for a few years (due to road closure and traffic rerouting) but reopened in 2003 when Cindy began selling sweet cherries at a fruit stand in the front yard! That was such a success, leading to the removal of one apple orchard to make room for a new market building. Lewis Farms as we know it today reopened in August 2004.

WHAT ABOUT THE ANIMALS?
Truth is — Cindy (being a city girl!) was not sure about selling fruit. What did excite her was the Petting Zoo that was established then also! The collection of animals evolved (rather quickly) after Scott was persuaded to construct the first barn — which was built with wood planed at a saw mill right here in Oceana County! Baby goats were first, taking up residence in the garage until the barn was completed! Next came a miniature donkey and a miniature horse (who camped out in the front yard, awaiting barn space)! Next, an alpaca showed up to claim an empty barn stall. Farm guests loved the petting farm, and that spurred Cindy on! Road trips were scheduled to collect more animals.
A baby camel was picked up at the Burger King parking lot in Hudsonville, MI. Our wallabies came from Ohio. Fallow deer were added from a farm in Howell, MI. Then there are the bunnies and a village for them to live in. And next — birds: peacocks, ducks, chickens, and pheasants. Our prairie dogs are eager to pop up and see you. The animal and bird barnyards truly make Lewis Farms a destination for adventure.

Lewis Farms is a fifth-generation family farm and West Michigan’s most beloved agritourism destination. Located in New Era, Michigan, our story began in the 1970s with a simple roadside farm market built by the Lewis family. What started with fresh produce and hard work has grown into a vibrant destination where agriculture and adventure come together.
After reopening in 2004 with a renewed vision, Lewis Farms expanded beyond fruit production to create unforgettable on-farm experiences. Today, alongside our working fruit farm, guests enjoy a lively petting zoo, exciting attractions, seasonal festivities, and a market filled with fresh, locally grown favorites.
While growing high-quality fruit remains our foundation, welcoming families is our passion. Generations of the Lewis family continue to work side by side, carrying forward a legacy built on hospitality, faith, and community.
Lewis Farms was shaped by the warmth and vision of Cindy Lewis, whose creativity helped transform the farm into a place where families gather and traditions begin. Her spirit continues to guide us as we welcome each guest.
From exciting attractions to exotic animals, Lewis Farms is a place for families to slow down, explore, and make lasting memories.

OUR FAMILY WILL BE HERE TO GREET YOUR FAMILY
Although growing fruit is our main focus, the Petting Zoo and our many seasonal attractions make it a full-time business. The farm has been a family affair for generations and that legacy continues! Scott and Cindy’s sons Tyler and Brandon have grown up at the market and are now working all aspects of the farm. Alongside them, their wives, Becca and Makenna, contribute their talents and insights. Making Lewis Farms a true family endeavor.
